So, in college I took a statistics class and learned a few things. First, doing a study that warranted any merit or held any weight was very, very labor intensive and required a large representative sampling. Second, if not performed under very stringent analytical processes the study wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on. Basically, it’s very difficult to successfully garner any valuable data out of a survey. To make data gathered from a survey believable and accurate, the sample taken must be representative of the whole. All-too-frequently surveys are intentionally misused by finding ways to interpret only the data that are favorable to the presenter. You might be asking, “so what’s the point”, why put together a survey that creates false hope and unrealistic expectations? Why ask what’s already known? It’s borderline insulting to ask our membership to spend their precious and limited time filling out a pointless survey that will accomplish nothing. More concerning is the fact that a very limited amount of individuals actually had input into the development of the survey. A disconnected faction of this union would like you to believe that expressing your opinion is somehow going to miraculously sway managements ideology behind running this department. As hopeful and optimistic I would like to be about the possibility, based on past practice, I won’t hold my breath. What were the true intentions of the survey? I’m not sure or would like to speculate on. What I do know is that a lot of our members are angry, angry at this union, and are begging for real change, not false hope and empty promises. I believe that our members deserve a lot more respect and credit than what is and has been given. Survey aside, actions speak louder than words (or print on paper), and we continue to aggressively and successfully fight for our members…..ACTIONS, not surveys! *****WE APPROVE THIS MESSAGE****** DOFELMIRE, ALVARADO, GRASSO, ROMO
