So in response to John Rood pissing and moaning about having to pay taxes, I did some quick and dirty research into the lowest taxed states. As I suspected, many of them were states rich in natural resources and/or tourism (ie they get plenty of money from other sources). One did surprise me. Alabama has the lowest rate of taxation per capita when all forms of taxes are factored in. This begs the question, why arent millionaires flocking to Alabama to enjoy their low taxes? Oh, right, because Alabama is consistently one of the worst five states in the country in things like education and health care and every other meaningful quality of life standard. Coincidence?
