So in some previous posts people are talking about the positives of our town and area H. I made some comments earlier and I will stand by them. So I have a few extra comments. For you folks who are new commers, maybe coming in with the mine, Coopers, what ever has brought you we welcome you to this little burg. Do you know that some 15 years ago our town did a huge renovation on our ball parks as at that time we had so many kids playing ball that I was actually a coach on one team and I am probably the worst ball player in the world. Yikes. But the kids were there and we reacted. We grew, produced some fantastic ball players, and the best fans in the world. We hosted two Provincial Championships bringing in hundred of families into our community. The people behind this were Al and Lois Knowles and they worked their asss off along with with the other members of minor ball. They organized an umpire school for our volunteers and when the games began they were prepared and outfitted in proper gear. We had teams from all over BC and they reveled in our hospitality. The Jura gang(my family) even came down and ambushed the opening ceremonies and shot one of the umpires as outlaws. The kids loved it. We did have the best of times and it was all done with volunteers. So now my young friends, it is all up to you. Make it happen. We did. And that was not the only thing that we did. This town had the finest Provincial Local Emergency Team going. We were all volunteers and when the big floods came and the fires and the snowfalls that stranded our neighbours we had it all together because we had trained and planned for these events. on our own time. We worked for 5 days on one event with about 3 hours sleep per night and when we put the call out one night on a emergency that we needed homes the cars lined the highway to pick up people that they did not even know to take them into their homes. If you are involved in this town it should make you very proud. We have a Search and Rescue Team that is just awesome. If my facts are correct they just did a mountain rescue .All of these folks do this on thier own time besides their regular jobs. The most important things that have ever happened in this town has come from volunteers. Who do you think organizes and runs Racing Days, our Rodeos, our Fall Fair, our parade, our Ms Racing Days pagent. Hats off to the organizers of the fantastic car show, the folks that prepare the Christmas hampers, the people that volunteer to our Thrift Store. To our Rotary members, our Lions Club who have worked so hard to fund and volunteer their efforts to so many things to assist. Who do you think volunteered time and equipment to assist in making our golf course what it is. Members of our comnunity did. Your town hall is limited to what they can do but volunteers are not. To me if you sit at home and expect that the local, provincial or federal government is supposed to make your life for you than you are mistaken. I know that you are out there. I have seen some great leadership already in some young people in this town and they are stepping out there and working hard. And i love them for it. But you know I am going the Bambi route on this one but I have changed it it abit. If there is something that you do not like or want changed then back it up with maybe a proposal or an idea. She sat on that bench just glowing with anger. She as we know ended up being scouted and went to the states on a full ride.
