So interesting that ST makes the point that despite hogging headlines in recent months, the average Singaporean isnt aware of Operation Coldstore. A bit like shooting itself in the foot...people dont read news anymore... Another way of looking at it: Its like asking why some non-average Sgeans are obsessed with this when most others arent. (So, the dialogue between the revisionists and the G isnt catching fire...) The answer is actually given by a historian: whether people are aware is also depends on whether the issue is in the school curriculum . Operation Coldstore, Marxist conspiracy obviously arent, going by the ST report. I checked with my class of undergrads - they have no idea of either. In fact, they dont even know who Benjamin Sheares and Devan Nair are.... Given that a bunch of academics have defined these as historic events, the question then is whether they should be included in school history/social studies books. And then comes the question, whose version....? So hard, history...
