So it dawned on me last night why Flim, Flam, Trenderhoof, Mr Cakes and Big Mac look so different from the rest of the shows characters. It came to me as I was watching the Super Cider Squeezy 6000 episode, and in particular when the twin antagonists are singing the same titled song. Theres a line in the song that goes Any horse can make a claim, and any pony can do the same which made me realize that the pair were referring to themselves. Flim, Flam Mr Cakes and Trenderhoof are not ponies, theyre horses, and thats why theyre taller and have a different look from the rest of the show. Weve already seen Cows, Donkeys, Camels and Zebras who also follow this logic, so itd make sense that Horses and Ponies would look different too. Being a Unicorn, Earth Pony, or Pegasus seem to be traits that can be added to any of these without interfering as weve seen Mr Cakes the Earth Pony and The Flim Flam Twins as Unicorns So what about Big Mac? Big Mac and his sisters all share the same traits relative to size. That is to say, Applejack and Applebloom have more stamina and strength than the average Pony as weve seen on the show. This could be attributed to farm life, which is true, but likely theres more to it than just that, so this theory applies to all three of them. Given Big Macs physical appearance, larger body, larger legs, extra stamina, and fringe coat that extends down his hooves, its likely that one of their parents was a Clydesdale and the other was a Pony. We cant say which is which, but Mac likely inherited more of the appearance traits from the Clydesdale parent while Applejack and Applebloom inherited more traits from their Pony parent.
