So it seems this whole thing with Ray Rice has people making a lot of what to me is ignorant comments. Why did she stay? Why doesnt she just leave him? Its her fault if she let it happen more than once etc etc etc This is hitting a nerve with me. I was a victim of domestic violence for 4 years. I stayed in that relationship for 4 years. Unless you are in that situation, you will never understand why someone stays. It is never as simple as just leaving. When you are in a situation like that hindsight is 20/20. You start to convince yourself that this as is good as it gets. You feel scared, and worthless. You tell yourself its okay because it doesnt happen all the time, and its better than being alone. I was terrified of being alone. He was all I had, and I already had a ton of abandonment issues due to my childhood. A lot of the time I thought it was something I was doing to make this happen. Or that I could fix it. There are so many things running through your mind at once, you are always so confused. Its a mess. You try to stay strong, you become an expert at applying makeup so no one knows, and you just try to make it through the day. But you are dying inside. So please, instead of judging someone in a situation like that, help them. Support them. Being judged like this is one of the many reasons people dont tell their stories, dont leave, or dont ask for help.
