So it took me about 2.5 hours to read through all the posts, tweets, articles, etc. what a great night. I loved reading about the various ways people spent there post game. Whether it was what sounded like a great time which our students referred to as Occupy Steak N Shake or the alumni that chose the Living Room Lounge as there place of choice. I loved reading about our Titans showing up at Champs to celebrate and the almost giddy tweets from patrons when they walked in the door. They have become celebrities. I thought it was cool that apparently hundreds of folks waiting in line at Tech to be the first to get their championship shirts. I got mine (thanks mom). My car full of kids drove from downtown and through the neighborhood beeping the horn and yelling about the Tech victory to everyone who would listen, whether they wanted to or not. I then chose to spend my post game at the Tick Tock. It was a full house and I loved spending time with my fellow Near Eastsiders. I had a great time. I do want to share what happened as I went to get gas this morning, three of the pumps there were people wearing Tech gear and when I went in to pay the lady behind the counter asked where my green was this morning. I unzipped my coat and showed my Tech shirt and she gave me a high five. I was asked by two others about the game. These were folks I have never met before but we certainly had a connection. I will say that there was one nagging annoyance from some of the coverage of the Basketball teams victory and what it means. While I am sure that they were all well meaning I will disagree a bit with some of the writers. I do not think the biggest thing coming out of the victory was that Tech or even IPS students now believe that they can succeed, they have already been succeeding. I think the biggest thing was that those that do not see it day to day got to see it on Indianas biggest stage. These are amazing students, amazing athletes and really good people. IPS is full of kids just like them and I am glad that secret is getting out. It has been a great ride this season and many of us got to share it. Now lets get a Mr Basketball and get Jeremie Tyler on the Indiana All Star team and CJ and Delaney start getting ready to defend this title. Oh yeah and I thought it was appropriate that when we all woke up this morning the Near Eastside was bathed in sunlight. Titanup!!!
