So its only accurate if you are not prepared for the realities of how much is enough knowing your market and what it will yield understanding a business plan that is NOT like the current models and acting with professionalism both in presentation and in product. New Modern Farmers must behave like any other business. Do the numbers, respect its own margins, understand marketing, and recognize it is not a wealth building business but it can make a decent living. I think if you crunched the numbers of wage earners - they are in the same boat as farmers parents work two jobs to make ends meet, college is a debt that can overwhelm the family budget, and I am almost willing to bet most Americans are operating in the red. Being a farmer is not for the faint of heart or those that want pretty farm photos and for house landscape Hollywoodesque ideas of farms. Its a skill set of first and foremost internal fortitude, a sense of a responsibility larger than immediate gratification,a whole dose of death, loss, and failure BUT it is a good life and it is better than any lie that working for someone else is going to give you financial freedom. Financial wealth is understanding your ability, your business, your market, and knowing the limitations and realities of all three. Its not for the lazy, the short cut takers, the new and improved better this or that- farming is about feeding people, stewardship, and a place in the world right up there with parenthood.
