So...ive run for office twice, worked at different levels on many - TopicsExpress

So...ive run for office twice, worked at different levels on many campaigns, worked for several elected officials, and complained to many as well. Heres the reality: Politicians / elected officials: 1. quit promising the world knowing you cant deliver even a neighborhood. This promising only further perpetuates the problem: people truly believing that you can solve all/most of their problems. Next, you get elected, cant deliver even if you wanted to, and the people who had faith in you lose faith in you and the system, which leads to point number 2. Quit complaining about people not voting. Serious. Its like a cheating mate complaining that their spouse doesnt trust them. Because you all keep promising and dont deliver, is it really a surprise that the people stop voting? Citizens: 1. stop falling for the bs people say during / right before elections. The ones who say all the right things are usually the ones who wi do all the wrong things if elected. I call them the agreers - they say / agree with whatever is popular or will get them elected. They will tell you they will get you a job, a contract, tear that house down, get the drug dealers off the streets, make all the schools equitable, etc. which leads me to the next point 2. Stop believing a politician will save the world. Take a look around, problems dont change, issues dont change, promises dont change. Every four, eight, twelve, sixteen, however many four year dating back to when democracy began its the same thing. So learn True capacity of the offices youre voting on...because the more time leaders are spending trying to do things actually outside their offices capacity the less time they are spending doing what they actually are supposed to be doing. Have realistic expectations of your leaders...they arent super heroes. Which leads me to my final point 3. Politicians are humans just like you! They have bills, families, needs, lots of issues to deal with personally and in their elected roles, they make mistakes, they have to learn their positions just like you would in a new position, etc. we expect our leaders to be in the know, in the mix, visible, reachable, in meetings, and working on solutions for about an average of 12-16,000 a year. Yep state reps/senators/school board make little to nothing in their part time pay bur overtime expectations jobs. And we wonder why and how they become corrupt - damn Johnny tuition is due, i have to drive a certain type of car, these dry cleaning bills for my suits!, food on the table, rent. One thing leads to another and the next thing you know you have a politician taking all kinds of money under the table. And the system is setup that most officials start in these roles (rep/senate/school board) become a part of the system and continue up the line to higher positions where they miraculously regain ethics and morals - not. Its like the drug game once youre in youre in. You cant just get out of the game. Ok done.
