So....last Sunday afternoon sirens sounded and an alert went out at UNC-Chapel Hill that an armed man was uttering threats in the Student Union....later on television I saw he was in handcuffs standing beside my church...the Chapel of the Cross......here is the rest of the story told partly in todays sermon.... At about 415 last Sunday afternoon an altar guild member was preparing the old 170 year old chapel for the 5 pm service when she noticed someone trying to hide in the old upper slave gallery....she went to talk to him and found a distraught young man visibly upset....trying to calm him she took him to the church kitchen to give him some food and drink and to try to see what she could do to help him...she only partly succeeded in that and he barricaded himself in the kitchen...police arrived and a surrender took place...which is why I saw him on tv just outside our chapel...not normally a task of an altar guild member who in my view should get the hero of the week award....but theres more...she happened to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner married to a cop.....Consider..
