So last month I commented on a beautiful photo on Instagram, it was taken by a very talented photographer I follow (one of my favorites). I felt compelled to comment on this particular one not only because it was beautiful, but because it reminded me of a photo my Mom had fallen in love with while in the hospital in Calgary undergoing her cancer treatments. The picture hung in her hospital room, she talked about visiting the place in the picture when she got out... We found out that the beautiful place in the picture was called Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada. Mom was eventually transferred from Calgary to Drumheller and would not leave without making sure the picture would be coming with her. Unfortunately Mom never was well enough to travel to Spirit Island and passed away before getting the chance. Her picture stayed with us, it hung in my brother, Peters house but was sadly lost when his house burned down. My comment to the photographer was a shorter version of why I loved the photo. He was moved by the story and kindly offered to send me a print of the photo. I emailed him my address and felt like I should apologize as I didnt mean my comment to sound like a sob story in order to expect anything in return. He assured me that it was not a sob story and he was more than happy to send a print... I received the print yesterday! I expected an envelope with the print inside, but was surprised to see a box with a beautifully framed print inside, which stirred up more emotions than I ever expected. Im not sure if I could find the right words to express my gratitude and I realize to some it may not seem like a big deal... A huge thank you to Jeff Bartlett for showing such kindness, it is something I will never forget.
