So last night I finally watched the 1977 Japanese psychadelic fantasy horror flick HAUSU, which Criterion semi-helpfully describes as an episode of Scooby-Doo as directed by Mario Bava. Seriously, what the hell just happened to my head. Here is a trailer that only BEGINS to hint at what HAUSU feels like: youtube/watch?v=WQ_Yo06kIIA Aside from the OBVIOUS disorienting stuff (the piano that eats people, the flying disembodied head that bites people in the butt, etc.), I dont know that Ive ever seen a horror movie where it feels like every single cut in the film is an arty dissolve and the director is doling out iris shots like a silent-film director doling out Halloween candy. Its a weirdly beautiful thing, and its on Hulu Plus: hulu/watch/215925
