So last night I had a brief discussion about the Bluegrass - TopicsExpress

So last night I had a brief discussion about the Bluegrass Pipeline with an opposing view. My first and only argument against the pipeline in this discussion was from an environmental stand point. The opposing persons main argument was about using our local resources to alleviate our dependence on foreign petroleum products. The discussion ended, not on a bad note, but because it wasnt the time or place to have said discussion. After talking about it later with Jordan ( he was there), I said I understand self dependence. My problem with the pipeline is not just environmental but that there are some things that are sacred. I do not agree with war for oil, even though the Iraq war was more about easy money for contract corporations like Haliburton, KBR, etc. Oil was a bonus. My problem with tapping into our own resources is that we should be past petroleum products. Not only is this an appeasement of corporations who are talking out the other side of their face about falsely promised permanent jobs, safety of the HAZARDOUS LIQUID PIPELINE, the false reality that once a spill happens the landscape will recover. Recover, it will not recover for many generations or EVER. This is about our countrys sad record for ignoring what it knows will be the consequences with the mentality that money can fix everything. Money can not fix an evolved ecosystem destroyed by oil. Again, some things are sacred to me. They should be sacred to you. Not to mention, if our nation wants to subsidize energy, why arent we subsidizing wind or solar like in the EU? I mean get serious about it! Germany is kicking ass in solar. Solyndra was a fluke, and a minuscule fraction of subsidized molah compared to what BP (for example) receives. Believe me, BP may have shelled out the big bucks for their Mia Culpa, but it did NOT hurt them. I will continue to have no respect for oil based energy companies until they get serious about their true impact. They destroy the Earth and laugh clutching our tax dollars all the way to the bank. Ok. Stepping off my soap box now.
