So last night I took the #ALSIceBucketChallenge given to me by Freeholder Director Bruce Garganio and had Township Staff pour the bucket on me. I continue to see posts on why do the challenge? or Here is what an ALS patients says..... Here are some of my thoughts. For those of you who do not know, my wife whom I love very much, has Multiple Sclerosis or MS for short. She was diagnosed about 5 years ago. Today she will be going for her monthly 2 hour infusion at the hospital to help slow the progression of this debilitating disease. Without the awareness campaign’s the MS Society used, the treatments available today might not have been available. MS and ALS are VERY similar (both neurodegenerative diseases that impact the central nervous system), though both have their differences. As of current there are more treatment options for MS and the Ice Bucket Challenge is working. It helps raise the awareness needed to generate funds so one day, better treatment options can become available to slow or stop the progression of this neurodegenerative disease. So at the end of the day, do your part anyway you can to help raise awareness. One day your action or generosity might hold the key to unlocking the treatment so much needed. Sincerely, Rich DiFolco, Mayor Mount Holly Township
