So last night around 11:00 pm, by mistake I tuned into one Bhakti TV channel. A lady and a guy sat in their traditional wear along with a laptop. Much like the stock analysts on Business channels, these guys called themselves Upaaye analysts and without any iota of doubt announced guaranteed solutions to peoples problem. There were lots of numbers flashing on the screen. People were dialling in and putting forth there problems. They were asked their date, time and place of birth. The lady punched in the said data into her laptop and bingo! she could see the future of the caller (while at many occasions she failed to guess the past; not sure why she even attempted that). A female caller whose husband has been keeping unwell since long, was prescribed this Upaaye: Aapke pati ko doodh ke glass mein angutha bhigo kar choosna chahiye. For 12days. Maata Raani kirpa karegi! Amused by the nature of Upaaye, I tried to dial in the no. The live Q&A line appeared busy, even though I tried it for a couple of times. But then I discovered other numbers on screen To book an appointment call here. There lines could accommodate any number of callers and I guess were the actual source of revenue, because time and again the guy on TV kept repeating Aap is Upaaye ko aazmaaney ke baad appointment leke aaiye. The consultation fee for that appointment: Rs.2100 PS: The consultation fee even at Medanta (quite an expensive hospital of this country) near by my place is Rs.1100, which is still way less than Rs.2100 (Angutha chusaane waley Upaaye ki fees) Sadly, that female caller may not land up reading my status. But then the question that I want to ask is - Havent we lost the real God, amid these hollow superstitions?
