So...last week I blocked a couple of people who were truly unpleasant on a thread about the Ferguson and NYC protests. Both were blocked not for their politics (though I found their beliefs ugly), but because they were nasty and rude. One of those people sent me a message on my public page to let me know he was unfollowing me there, which of course is fine with me, and made sure to let me know that racist is a word liberals use when we disagree with someone. Not going to comment on that. Ill just let it sit there. Anyway, I tried to respond, but now that hes gone, Facebook wouldnt let me. Still, I wanted to share part of that response here, for the record. [PS: I like people to read my books, but Im not going to sell my soul for readers. My beliefs are mine. You dont have to agree. And if you post here, on my page, I get to argue with you. You dont see me showing up on your page--unless I know you in real life--and arguing with you.] ******************************************** Im not going to get into a long debate, but I will respond to this. Youve been a consistent conservative voice in replying to things on my page and I never censored you. I disagreed vehemently with the things you were saying on that thread, particularly your sourcing debunked facts to make your arguments. I, and others, were calling for a trial. Thats what our system of justice is supposed to provide. I cant recall her calling you a racist, and if she did I cant remember if she was saying your position was racist or if you were a racist, which are not the same thing. Regardless, your response was abusive. There are conversations like this on my page all the time that take place without me blocking anyone, so evaluate based on that. I didnt block you because of your views, I blocked you because you were abusive. Also...its my personal page. This here is my public page. On my personal page, as far as Im concerned, its like people sitting around my kitchen table. I wouldnt stand for someone talking to a dinner guest like that at my kitchen table, and I wont on my personal page.
