So lately Ive seen a lot of you get what you pay for comments about editors, and I just wanted to add my two cents... I understand that the old adage may hold true in some instances, but there are other things to look at when you, as an author, are searching for an editor. I, for one, have a career. I am a pharmacist and dont have any plans on quitting. I edit because I enjoy doing it. Could I charge more? Yes, I suppose I could but it would all just go to Uncle Sam. Does that mean my work is subpar because I dont charge as much as the next person? NO! Moral of the story: Dont just look at cost when looking for an editor. Check their references and CONTACT their references. Find out what type of work was done for the testimonial because it might be different than what you need. The testimonial might be 6 months old and the author might not feel the same way about the editor as they did when it was written. You never know unless you ask :)
