So.... lets just see how stupid Malaysians are.... or how stupid the government thinks we are...... Heres something I saw a little earlier arguing that wed save money when we migrate over to the GST model. Bottom line looks good.... the GST bill IS lower..... ... but only because GST is set to 6% whereas sales tax is 10%.... ... and you and I both know that once implemented the Finance Minister can change that 6% to anything he wants...... So..... 10% sales tax costs more than 6% GST huh? Wow... whod have thunk it? Lets see whatll happen if GST went to 10% (equal to sales tax):- Step 1:- Manufacturer = RM10; GST = RM5 TOTAL= RM55 Step 2:- Wholesaler profit RM10, GST on RM10 @ 10% = RM1, Total = RM55 + 10 + 1 = RM66 Step 3:- Retailer profit RM20, GST on RM20 @10% = RM2; Total = RM55 + 10 + 1 + 20 + 2 = RM88. So yeah... 2 different tax structures, same tax rate at 10%..... current sales tax final price = RM85, GST final price = RM88. Still think youre saving money?
