So let’s pick apart Bryan Seymour’s woeful “exclusive” - TopicsExpress

So let’s pick apart Bryan Seymour’s woeful “exclusive” report for Channel 7 news (https://au.news.yahoo/nsw/a/26035713/call-for-muslim-army-in-australia/) that was aired yesterday: - The report is headlined as a “call to arms” – can anyone find where exactly a call to arms was made? No? That’s because there wasn’t one, let alone any “call for Muslim army in Australia”. Let’s look at the quotes of Bilal Merhi used in the report: Eventually, we will bounce back and we will reclaim everything that they have taken from us.” He was talking here about how the Ummah will eventually rightfully reclaim its lands, resources etc. that were stolen from us by foreign powers. A call to arms? Not quite. Now they say are brave, they have their freedoms… yeah because you have no state, no authority, you have no representation, they can be brave! But be brave when we have authority! Come forward when we have a representation with an army! Ready to defend the honour of Allah and his Messenger. They will not. They will not. And thats what we have to understand.” Call to arms? Again, not really. A statement rather highlighting that the west has sought to opportunistically attack Muslims whilst we are weak, but will the same “bravery” be exhibited when the Ummah is united and strong? It is very easy to kick a man when he is down – there is no bravery in that. Yet with a wave of his wand (or concealed camera), Bryan says that the above quote implied that “Australias democratic government has to go in favour of an Islamic Caliphate ruled by Sharia Law.” Really? What a joke. - Ah, the beloved free speech line. Bryan quotes Bilal saying that we will oppose freedom to insult Rasulallah. Yes, Muslims aren’t ok with mockery of our Messenger. The delightful irony is that whilst defending freedoms, Bryan rushes to have the Attorney General comment about locking up people who may say what they find disagreeable. - “If people are engaged in the advocacy or encouragement of terrorism, they will be arrested, they will be prosecuted and they will be taken off our streets,” said Attorney General George Brandis. Well if that’s the case, the Australian government should be the first behind bars for its state terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq, the War of Terror and its unflinching support of the United States. - Bryan says he was the only journalist present. This is a blatant lie. I personally dealt with other media that was present. - I mentioned to him several times that we are not permitting video recording and he agreed to that. There was also a sign on the door mentioning the same – that videography was not permitted. He knowingly and arrogantly ignored this completely, which is something that he tries to milk in his report by characterising himself as some James Bond style undercover agent on a secret mission. - Bryan quotes me saying we do have some media present here tonight so we do strongly encourage the audience not to engage with them.” With the standard of “journalism” we see with his likes, is it any surprise that Muslims don’t trust the media? - Reports like this are incredibly irresponsible as they only serve to further Islamophobic social sentiments. They are dishonest, deliberately misleading and contribute to an atmosphere of tension and fear towards all things Islam and Muslim. Even if we want to have an honest conversation about serious issues, we are ridiculously characterised as extremists issuing calls to arms. Journalists like Bryan Seymour display no integrity whatsoever, are complicit in fostering hatred and should be ashamed of themselves. - Hamza Qureshi
