So, like many, Ive become a little bored or interrupted by all the ALS challenge videos showing up on Facebook. I found myself saying why not just donate money instead of getting out of donating by doing the challenge. But, I also see the value in doing the challenge, because it creates awareness. Im sure that Google has seen a massive spike in ALS searches since this began and thats good for ALS. But here is a thought, why not do the challenge AND donate money. Even if you only donate 5.00 that would be that much more that ALS raises. Which, by the way, has raised an extra million dollars - from this campaign - more than it did this time last year and most of that has been just in the weeks of the challenge. So its working. Its both a shame and a blessing that these gimmicky tricks can raise money where simple unsolicited donations cant and I hope that many other causes find similar things to raise money for their awareness and research needs. And if you arent sure how ALS effects folks, watch this video. It puts a human perspective to the discussion.
