So long as all results are in the public domain, I have no objections to research along these lines because I think the knowledge gained will be of equal value to activists. A knife can be used to cut bread or cut people. Here are two examples from the article: 1.) The project will determine the critical mass (tipping point) of social contagians by studying their digital traces [What activist wouldnt want to have that kind of knowledge? It tells us what to aim for.] 2.) seeks to uncover the conditions under which political movements aimed at large-scale political and economic change originate, along with their characteristics and consequences. [This knowledge would help activists recognize exploitable circumstances and perhaps inform thought about how to create those circumstances.]
