So looking through Facebook I simply have to shake my head at times and look over all the hate many demonstrate. Whats true for me is, its a little sad to see people I know are wonderful people present in such poor ways to others. Whether its a football game or politics we should demonstrate the character that exist within us. Whether your team or candidate lost or won or lost, or your state went red, blue, green, or purple this shouldnt influence how we behave to others that live within our great country. Freedom by definition means the right to choose which means we are all going to have different ways of seeing things. This doesnt make people evil, communist, or any less human than anyone else. These are the ideals that freedom should embrace and all who believe in freedom should stand for. We see things differently, we behave differently, we do different things.... thus we have the right to choose. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion however keep in mind that we are one nation, the melting pot of the world and differences are what make us the United States. We are all in a way family, and if your grandmother had opposing view points would you say the things you post on facebook? I would hope not! We change the way we handle and treat people because we put a face to the enemy or op-poser, however this doesnt speak to character in my humble opinion. Many times in youth services we teach kiddos what we call morale reasoning through examples, for instance: If a youth goes into a store and steals or punches the clerk the can justify this by saying, The company has a lot of money, its no big deal and that clerk was rude he deserved to be punched in the face! Then we change the scenario and say, Just so you know your grandmother is the owner of this store and she is the clerk. This usually gets a strong reaction because one, they cant justify this poor behavior and the other just seems wrong because its someone the know and love. Values are values and how we treat others whether we know them well or not should way heavily on our minds. Do you have to listen to me? Absolutely not! I could be one of the most messed up people I know, however I realize this... family, friends, fellow Americans, people are important and hate and brutalizing are never the best way to achieve change that matters no matter what your views are. We will always have opposing view points in our nation and in many ways this is what makes us strong, So embrace your beliefs! However, how we conduct ourselves we should question constantly. Just remember before you respond or post anything what if I was sending this to my dear old grandmother and make sure that it reflects the love and character that exist within you for your friends, family, nation, and the human race in general. How I treat you isnt based on what you do or dont believe or what team you support but the values, character, and love that exist within me. This is simply food for thought and you can easily discard because you are free to do so.... lol In closing remember that peoples hearts are changed by actions and relationship and not by hurling hurtful words at each other. People tend to be influenced by those they are close too or they respect so bring down the walls and simply love people whether you agree with their beliefs or not..... Just remember how you treat Grandma whether you agree with her or not. Jeff
