So looks like this may happen in aug 14 for official public comment (tx Amy) This is really important. So many services are currently downtown and of course our overnight shelters, it only makes sense to have a day center to help in the winter months and hot summers to be close to other services. Homeless usually means living on foot, and bus system is incredibly inefficient for making things like appointments easy,, assuming you can afford a bus pass. For those of us with cars and housing, our days are made so much easier by conveniences we rarely think of (beds, toilets, showers all in one space before leaving for the day, cars to travel far distances easily, etc. etc. etc.) Downtown has shelters for men, women and children, various church programs like Bethels awesome one, the library, and of course the community. When you live on foot and you have little money, community is far more critical and getting help from one another from little things and to simply social support which is so important too. There is no reason to have a day shelter not downtown EXCEPT for business interest and wanting to make homelessness more invisible.
