So many concerns with such a scary word: meningitis. I have - TopicsExpress

So many concerns with such a scary word: meningitis. I have learned more about the term than I would have liked to have known! I know Ethan was around lots of friends over this last week, and I know the thought of contamination would cross my mind if someone elses family was in a hospital room wearing gloves and masks a couple days after hanging out with my kids! So, let me help put some of our pals at ease that were around Ethan, also for those that will see us over the next couple of weeks, and even to just give everyone some helpful information that will be good to know should you hear the scary word again soon. The only way Ethan could have infected someone else with meningitis is if this were to come back bacterial, and as of right now, there is no indication of that. And it would have been transmitted through his saliva or feces. Yep. True stuff. If he infected someone with bacterial meningitis, through the above-mentioned ways, they would have shown symptoms within 48 hours. Because we have now been in the hospital over 48 hours, your child would have already been showing extremely progressive signs of meningitis. And you, unlike me, would probably show some concern when your child has a migraine. :/ Good job, Jamie. I will say this, after a hospital scare with Emma years ago, neck pain has always scared me into thinking meningitis was a real possibility. Ethan went days without telling me his neck hurt. He has a high pain tolerance, he gets migraines a couple of times a year, and honestly, we were busy. Neck pain is one thing, but were talking unable to bend his head forward stiffness...so, slow down and pay attention to your kids. Lesson learned.
