So many lunchtime rants, so little time... Ok, yeah. On any given day, I tend to get more than my fair share of compliments related to my physical appearance. Even though I may rag on myself for dark circles under my eyes or cellulite on my thighs, by and large I DO think Im pretty- which, despite all the body-positive dogma, is the most evil thing a woman can say. We shout mantras of Love yourself! and Everyone is beautiful! but as soon as a woman says, Yeah, I AM pretty and I LIKE being pretty, shes a vacuous waste of human flesh with nothing more to offer the world than her looks. Gag me. My bra size and IQ are NOT inversely proportional. The length of my (gasp, 100% natural) eyelashes and my ability to engage someone in interesting, meaningful conversation arent, either. No ones looks make them more or less intelligent, funny, interesting, caring or good. Things dont get handed to me because I have high cheekbones and an hourglass figure. In fact, I have to work twice as hard because the prevailing attitude is that of this author: Physical attractiveness precludes you from being an intelligent or decent human being. Im insulted for myself, but Im also insulted for my family. The women in my family are gorgeous and there isnt one who is stupid or useless. I have beautiful, intelligent, kind friends, coworkers, acquaintances... My physical appearance doesnt make me intrinsically more valuable or important than anyone, so I refuse to believe that anyones average appearance makes them more intrinsically valuable or important than I.
