So many people struggle to identify abuse present in relationships - the lines become blurred especially when the victim loves the batterer (love means forgiveness, understanding after all, doesnt it?); and/or the victim (and batterer) has unprocessed previous experience with abuse/control dynamics (I think in truth, we all do - we live in a society that reinforces power, privilege and aggressive dynamics)...
