So many times I’ve heard it said … “I’m just paying for my past …. You don’t know my past … You don’t know the things I’ve done … You could never understand the evil I’ve done or thoughts that lurk deep in my heart …. I’ve done so many wrong and God could never forgive me … nor could I even hope that He could use me in some way …. I’m not even sure He even thinks of me ..” We love to flog ourselves with our past … limit ourselves with our past …. And even limit God because of our past. I was really struck by a passage and couldn’t get away from it. “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for …” Proverbs 16:6 Through His love for man & His faithfulness to His promise to Abraham and us … Did He not more than once say “for my namesake I will do this … or I will do that” Through His love and faithfulness … He atoned for the sins of the world …. But He’s God and I’m just a mere mortal … caught in the currents of my past, flowing in the raging seas of despair … I’m lost in the vastness of an ocean of guilt & shame. Yet as the sun rises in the east… A new day dawns … A day of hope that lights my way. For God isn’t worried about my past sins … He forgave them and remembers them no more. As the warden of my heart, I choose to be locked to my past or choose to open that cell door. You see the evil of my heart that I’ve done can be done away with. With Love and faithfulness those sins can & will be atoned for. For when I LOVE and allow love to flow from me … The enemies I have created (because of my actions) cannot stand against it. With faithfulness … the tide of erosion breaks down their strongholds. True love and faithfulness are not a covering that paints over my past. But they are like raging waters that move all obstacles and washes clean all debris. Father help me be a man of Love … To die to myself so that others may find life ... Lead me in the pathways of faithfulness that atonement comes & the past hurts I’ve caused be but a distant memory… If it’s even remembered at all.
