So many worry about gun violence, but I worry about violence. We see a decrease in homicides, but the combined homicide and aggravated assault (failed homicide) rate has not changed much. What do we do? The answer came from a study by Stanford. “In the spring of 2001, Stanford University released a landmark study that showed less television equals less violence. The study found a 50 percent decrease in verbal aggression and a 40 percent decrease in physical aggression, just by encouraging kids to turn off their televisions and video games. Thomas N. Robinson, an assistant professor of medicine at Stanford and the study’s lead author, said, ‘What this says is there is something you can do in a practical way, in a real-world setting, and see the effects.’” (Lt. Col. Dave Grossman & Loren W. Christensen. “On Combat.”)
