So, maybe this sounds a bit cliche, but I just wanna say it: Ive just tapped the surface of this whole magic thing. Im not saying this is like a new career choice, but Im becoming very interested in it and am loving learning different tricks and such. That said, Ive learned a lot from performing magic. Not a lot about the tricks themselves, but about people and life. Here is a short list of things Ive learned so far - 1. No matter where you go, there are always going to be people that are skeptics, grumps, non-believers, and tough cookies. Let them be grumpy. Youll impress them later. And if you dont, theyre the only ones not having a good time. 2. Dont be afraid of other humans. The first time I sang for someone, or the first time I walked up to a stranger to do magic, it was terrifying. However, the moment that you initiate a conversation with someone, most of the time theyre a person just like you. 3. You can spend a lot of money on fancy decks and props, but most of the time a plain deck of cards is the best. You dont have to buy a lot of stuff to feel happy about yourself. A regular deck of Bikes is just as good as an expensive looking deck. So be happy with what you have, because most of the time it will work for you the best. 4. Life is a lot more fun if you suspend disbelieve. Obviously magic isnt real. But good magicians/performers can make you forget it isnt. Its the same with stagecraft. A good performer will make you forget reality for a little bit. As an audience member or spectator, dont be afraid to let go for a minute or two. If you do, youll be much more thrilled than you would be otherwise. Albert Einstein said the best reaction to have is one of wonder. Okay, Im done sounding silly now.
