So meet Tony...3rd generation owner of the deli a block away from the house on Glen Oaks Blvd. He remembered me almost right away with a big smile. Tony told me today it opened in 1941 when Glen Oaks was a vineyard. After I left the corporate sales world to do music full time there were some lean times. Tony and his brother called me either Irish or Mr. Fitzsimmons. There were never any prices on things in those days for me they would say. We kind of helped the senior citizens of the neighborhood together. They always had a pad at the register for me when I had not...I had a tab. An order at the counter was always shouted out as double...meaning if I asked for a half of a pound of ground beef Tony called Get Mr. Fitzsimmons a pound a ground sirloin...he worked hard today! The hard work when I wasnt able to find construction work as a carpenter...every odd job within that area found its way to me...as well as borrowed tools and supplies to get the job done. The day of every cool gig...somehow a bottle of wine or a few 6 packs always appeared on the passenger seat of my 1968 Barracuda (4 on 5 spread). It was great to see the place and him...and of course that 1/2 pound of Tri-Tip roast he sold Paul Niday! Blast from the past! God bless you Tony and thank you for keeping me alive! Both my body and my self-esteem! What a life I have been blessed to lead!
