So much talk about Aledos 91-0 win over Western Hills and the subsequent bullying charge against the Aledo coach. Number one, the charge being brought by the Western Hills parent is absurd and trivializes the actual bullying that occurs in high schools every day. Bullying that damages, and in some cases, ends lives. This was a football game that got out of hand. By most accounts, Aledo coach Buchanan did what he could to hold the score in check, playing his starters sparingly. He cant penalize his own reserves by ordering them to ease up. That puts his own players at higher risk of injury. And it insults the Western Hills kids. And another thing. Why isnt there a mercy rule in UIL football? 50-0, 60-0, 70-0 whatever. End the game at that. It would likely spare us from the spectacle that this 91-0 game has become, exaggerated by a media culture that just cant get enough of this type of controversy.
