So my OEW comrade, Ed Lychik, is in 7th place to be on the cover of Runners World Magazine. A little backstory: Eddy is a wounded Army veteran of the Global War on Terrorism, which resulted in an amputation of his whole left leg. Thats right, no residual limb at all. Femur removed from the hip; hip disarticulation....And it didnt slow him down. This past April, I had the honor to run into Eddy during the Boston Marathon as I hand biked past him around mile six and gave him a shout out. I dont think Ive ever met a hip disarticulation that runs, let alone run the Boston Marathon. Eddy finished the marathon in well under four hours, and is a huge inspiration of mine, and may just be paving the road for all other personnel with extreme amputations to never question their so-called limitations. So while youre updating your statuses to ohmygawd Im stuck in traffic, or playing candy crush and fruit ninja, do me a favor, take a moment to vote for Eddy to get him on the cover of Runners World Magazine. Resiliency. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome. Thank you Ed just for being you. - E
