So my brilliant idea of making a facebook page to keep everyone informed has not been so brilliant due to its lack of use on our behalf! Big apologies to the family! Heres the latest... Since we flew from Vietnam to Burma weve had a pretty crazy few weeks with spending 12 days in Burma before 12 days in India and only arriving in Nepal a couple of hours ago! Burma was beautiful and amazing, we both felt like we wished we left more time to spend there. Its unlike the rest of SE Asia as the majority of the people just genuinely prefer to speak to you and learn about your country than try to sell you anything. A highlight was definitely our 2 day and 1 night trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake (for those of you who want to look it up). We stayed in a village at night time which was an incredible experience as I was swamped by at least a dozen children while Ren played a hacky type game using a cane ball with the young and old guys alike. The painful blisters I received have just about faded so wont be long until theyre forgotten and all thats left is the stunning images of scenery and experiences both on camera and in our memories! From Inle Lake we began our long journey to India which unbeknown to us would mean an estimate of 40 odd hours without sleep. We took an overnight bus to the capital, Yangon, from Inle Lake where the blaring distortion of music and Burmese comedies proofed we werent off to a good start. From Yangon we flew to Singapore with a few hours stop over before onwards to Dehli. Arriving in Dehli near midnight with no plans whatsoever we jumped in a taxi to go to our last minute $13 reservation right near the airport. A very friendly young guy accompanied us and we chatted to him about Australia, cricket, tips for India and everything in between while he tried to contact the hotel to find exactly where it was. Unfortunately when we finally got ahold of them they advised us our booking had to be cancelled and the money refunded for one reason or another, not to worry they suggested going to the Tourist Information Centre to figure our next move. There we were greeted by another friendly guy who turned out to be quite the smooth talker. He told us at that time of night it would be impossible to find anywhere in Dehli for less than $300 a night. In our eagerness to find a bed we trusted him as he proceeded to map out an itinerary for the full 12 days for us. A bit more than we would have spent in 12 days but hey its our first time in India, we have no plans, no idea how to get around and more importantly no sleep. With his reassurance that all we needed to pay for after that was lunch, dinner and shopping we obliged and were in a car with our driver and on our way to Agra to see the Taj Mahal in the wee hours of the morning. Our time in India left us with a bit of a love/hate relationship after realising wed made a bad decision in that first instance and being disappointed with our driver who about half way through the trip we caught nosing through Rens bag/wallet etc. but thats another long story! There were definitely some highlights and we would both love to go back but weve finally arrived in Nepal and are already feeling more relaxed in the company of easy going people and cool mid 20s weather. We missing home very much but excited for Nepal and then Europe before coming home. Not sure when that will be yet but well let you guys know as soon as we do! Lots of love, Jana & Ren xxxxxxx
