So my father has been an absentee in my life and at age 27 he returns and with unsolicited fatherly advice and changes he wants to make with my life starting with my hair. He says my hair needs to be done and he gives me money to do it. So being passive aggressive I bought a nice straight blond wig so then he gives me a lecture about being proud of my heritage. I let him babble and laughed at his ignorance. He hit me up this morning asking did you get rid of that hair yet? And I answered thusly: Not to be disrespectful but I found something peculiar, you told me to not be ashamed of my heritage yet as soon as you saw my natural hair in its natural color and texture you told me I need to get my hair done but when I showed up with a straight blond hair style you said dont be ashamed of your heritage. Was it the blond color? No, because there are natural blond Africans. Hair color was not the issue. Im certain if I showed up with a perm instead youd be satisfied blond or not. I am not perming or straightening my hair. I am very proud of my healthy thick natural hair that I inherited from you and my mother. Maybe Ill braid it but nothing else and braids are waaaay too expensive so please pick a different topic because if you re-evaluate your attitude towards my hair you will see that you are in fact the one who is not proud of the heritage in my hair texture. I think believes Im some little black girl lost.
