So my final day to fish before returning to work was totally ruined today. I went to fish Salmon Cove River in Conception Bay for the odd chance at a salmon but mainly for some of their record sea run browns. I started at the pond fishing my way down river only to find multiple net type traps on the river and a net across the river closer to the ocean. I suprised a guy setting these traps and he left it on the bank and took off. I did immediately report the guy and his vehicle to DFO. Attached is a pic of the net/trap the guy left on the bank. After reporting a DFO officer called me and got more info from me so I waited for them to arrive to show them the problem. They informed me that this was one of their major problem areas and cant keep up with the poachers in the area. I blame not just the poachers but every damn household on that river who HAS to see these people at some point doing what they do and letting it go. Ruining the river. If the guy I scared off is reading this.. I hope karma gets you good and you get what you deserve. To end my rant.. the broken beer bottles, plastic bags and WORM TUBS that I picked up of this scheduled class 2 river and threw in the back of my truck was disgusting.
