So, my mother is watching Fox News, and I have no idea what to do about it. An example: they did a report on how President Obama said we should run our workplaces more like France, with more sick leave, more maternity leave, more vacation hours, more flexibility with hours, etc. Fox News said this was a bad idea because, allegedly, France has a 23ish% unemployment rate and their median income is 22,000ish US dollars per year, which are, of course, abysmal statistics. All it took was a quick Google search and an examination of the World Bank website to find that those statistics were completely made up. Their unemployment rate is closer to 7ish% and their income is closer to 40,000ish dollars. People, fact-check. Im serious. FACT. CHECK. There are so many persuasive arguments that are based completely on lies, and whats almost worse is that these arguments can be refuted by a quick internet search that people are apparently either too lazy or too uninformed to do. Dont take anything at face value. Question everything. They depend on you not fact-checking to keep their arguments solid. Dont give them that power.
