So my mother said something about the Thief franchise that interested me; she said that she disliked it, because it glamorized the idea of being a thief. And Ill be the first to admit that there is truth in her argument.... but do you know who else glamorizes the idea of being a thief? Aladdin and (Captain) Jack Sparrow. Both of these people are unrepentant thieves in their respective films. Ones got to eat to live (and has got to steal to eat), while the other seems to steal solely because he likes to. Yet we adore both of these people, and even look past the fact that they steal what isnt theirs because theyre so much fun to watch. Both Aladdin and Pirates of the Caribbean were major staples of my childhood and early teen years, yet how many things have stolen in real life? Zero. Even though I RP as a thief character here, and have quite the prolific criminal career in Skyrim, I can differentiate between fantasy and reality. So in light of this, my question is as follows: what makes the Thief franchise so dangerous, when Ive already been taught by movies that stealing stuff is sometimes okay?
