So my roommate and her friend were in the kitchen, and I was in my room trying to study for my midterms; My door is closed, and I am as far away as possible from the kitchen. All of a sudden, they start to talk--very, very loudly--about white supremacy, and white privilege. I tried to put in headphones, but I could still hear them, even after I had turned up the music a fair amount. After her friend left, a very uncomfortable hour and a half later, I come out of my room, and I politely tell my roommate that I could hear them in my room, and that it made me uncomfortable that they were yelling about white privilege when I was the only Caucasian person in the apartment. I didnt mind that they were talking about it--I acknowledge it is a problem--but if youre going to talk about it, if you could do it a little bit more quietly and not yell it immediately in front of my door, that would be great. But Im wrong, because Im part Caucasian, and no matter how respectfully I tried to bring it up and explain why I was uncomfortable, you wont budge, and when I tried to ask questions to be more knowledgeable about the topic, you shut me down and told me I was a waste of time and resources. I dont know. I already know Im going to get flamed.
