So, now that Im a serious podcast listener, my newest obsession is #INVISIBILIA. Theyve only posted 1 podcast but so far so great. The women that moderate this podcast were recently on #THISAMERICANLIFE doing a show on Batman, an amazing story about hidden expectations and a blind man that can see. The theme of their show is the invisible network of what is behind our thought, actions, experiences. I was so intrigued with A study they revealed in the beginning of their episode. A researcher took two sets of lab rats. He labeled 1 set dumb and the other set smart. He had random people come in and put the rats through a maze. Those that were labeled dumb couldnt make it through the maze or had trouble. The ones labeled smart flew through the maze with exceptional speed and accuracy. One of his conclusions was that the handlers expectations of the rats, influenced their very behavior but the smart and dumb rats were just rats! The question for us today is how do we look out in our world and influence behaviors based on our expectations? How many children arent given an opportunity to shine because of low expectations? Or how many animals arent given a chance (Pit Bulls) because of the expectation of our society in them being killers? Just a thought today...... https://soundcloud/this-american-life/544-batman
