So, now that weve had the 3ds version for a while, I wanna raise a discussion, over what we think the default ruleset should be. The only thing is, none of us have gotten to play the wii u version (to my knowledge), so we cant do stages as easily as everything else. That being said, YouTube channels (GameXplain being a good example) have gameplay footage from some of the levels we have yet to see) So Ill post my opinions, and reasonings, and feel free to post yours, and discuss why you think that. General rules: 3 stock 8 minutes. Custom moves legal Miis legal Equipment banned I know the common viewpoint is 2 stock 5 minutes cause of for glory, but I feel like by that logic, we have to use FD only and ban custom moves and miis. Clearly, we dont want FD only, but everything else is up in the air. My opinion on them is that they dont change enough to be banned. They dont provide an unfair advantage, with the exception of unfamiliarity, which means nothing since adaptation is a big part of smash. They all appear to be situational, or just personal preference, anyways. The examples Im gonna use are villagers tree and Marios fireball. Villagers tree is a good example. Youre probably familiar with the first one, but for anyone who doesnt know, the second one is very defensive. The sapling will trip opponents, so its good vs little Mac, or anyone who likes to rush down via the ground, and the tree will deal damage back to whoever attacked it should they be close enough. Thats OP I hear you all screaming, but you couldnt be more wrong. While I agree that its good defensively, its laughable offensively. Ive dropped a tree on a little Mac at around 100% and he didnt go anywhere near dieing. The axe and tree growth dont have any kill power either. Te other example was Marios fireball. Youve got the traditional fireball, the one that acts similarly to Flacos laser, and the giant ball that doesnt cover any ground, but will rack up damage upon hitting. Basically comes down to preference: which one do you like more and which one do you like more for the given matchup. Now with miis and palutena, its a little bit different. They all have 12 unique specials (i consider the miis to be 3 different characters). But the same rules still ally. Palutena might lose the ability to reflect (which is huge vs mii gunner, villager, and megaman IMO) while gaining shine 2.0 (super speed) or angelic missile. She might lose the counter to gain lightweight or celestial firework as well. All situational, and if you look into the mii specials, youll find they have gives and takes as well. My only things against equipment are that its random (you can have the same equipment with different stat boosts) and that you gain more than you lose, so you can just raise every stat beyond the default. Te other thing I wanna point out is that while I admit 3 stock 8 minute can feel like it takes for ever, it will never take longer than the max time limit of melee/PM. The other thing is stages: the 3DS stage list is sad, but we wont need it for long with the wii U version. My thought are: Neutral Final Destination Battlefield Lylat cruise Smashville Town & City CP Big battlefield Pilot Wings Any omega stage (banning FD will ban all of these as well) 1 stage ban I dont know how I feel about any of the stages without having played them, but I do admit Im borderline on a lot of them. I want to like wuhu island, delfino plaza, and skyloftc, but (from what I could tell), a lot of the stages are walkoffs/swimming (same thing with Wooly World) As for orbital gate assault, I donike how you can fall off the platforms, being out into a severe disadvantage, when you switch transportation. You can also be hurt by the missile blowing up (same thing with halberd). Big battlefield might not be viable due to camping, or just the size of it, and Im iffy on polite kings cause the mountains can hit you if youre at te edge of the screen, but theyre the two best from what Ive seen. I feel like its identical to battlefield in structure, and can be legal as well, just under the same name and not its own stage, and there for can only be chosen if both players agree to it AFTER choosing battlefield. Even if this doesnt get read by anyone outside of OK, I feel like raising a discussion is a nice thing to try on the offchance or does. IMO, the sooner the scene can find a ruleset, the better.
