So, on Easter Sunday, when about 30 or so of my immediate family gathers for a feast, theres one young woman in her late 20s there, a friend of my niece, who is completely new to this scene. But she introduces herself diligently to every one of us, helps with the kids egg hunt, takes charge of the head count, dives into the dessert table, plays along with the whole shpiel. When its time to leave, shes at the door saying goodbye, and she kinda tears up. This is more family than Ive had in my entire life, she says. Wow.
