So on Friday I was supposed to play in Madison, WI, a 5 hour drive - TopicsExpress

So on Friday I was supposed to play in Madison, WI, a 5 hour drive away, but when I arrived in town I discovered the show had been canceled. The venue - which was actually just a shitty bar - said we were booked for a different date even though there were posters for my show on the front door and they were still taking money from the people who came to see hip hop, not the impromptu country show happening instead. There is nothing more embarrassing and frustrating than driving a few hours to perform only to be thrown into this kind of situation. On top of that, the promoter wasnt present and didnt do anything to smooth over this mess. Im not one for holding grudges or hard feelings towards any of the parties involved because life is too short. But this is my career. This is my passion. This is my lifes work and half-assing any part of the process is not good enough. I learned a great lesson from this.... Know what you are worth. I have gone out of my way to play shows on my artistic journey, many times at the expense of relationships, my bank account and happiness. I absolutely LOVE what I get to do and LOVE performing as much as possible. But I am realizing in order for me to travel to play shows, or contribute my time & energy, there are certain things I need, in the same way you respect and compensate anyone else providing a service whether it be entertainment etc. It is very important to me to give the best show possible to my fans. If I cant do that than I would rather not perform. I wanted to share this story because this sort of thing happens all too often to indie artists, actually WAY too often. I apologize to anyone that wanted to see me in Madison or Rockford. We will definitely be making these shows up in the coming months.
