So on Monday, Alyssa came home from school on the bus and didnt - TopicsExpress

So on Monday, Alyssa came home from school on the bus and didnt have her backpack. The entire bus and the driver were looking for it too (she had it when she got on the bus). After a few days and the driver talking to a few kids, its come out that another kid on the bus took it and threw it into someones backyard near his stop. The boy has not admitted to it and a few other kids are keeping their mouths shut about it (the driver said she can tell they know something though). Now my question is, do I take this the principal or higher up in transportation? I get its really only a $20 backpack, but still, the fact is that a kid took something that wasnt his and ruined/lost it. Im not happy because this is a kid who sits by her everyday on the bus. I know my child should have been paying attention to her own backpack, but at the same time, she shouldnt have had it taken from her. I dont want to go overboard with this, but I dont feel this kid should get away with this behavior. What do you think?
