So on Wednesday evenings, the parents at my church drop off their kids in the youth room and go attend the evening worship for Korean speakers. Some of the students are in elementary and some are in middle school or high school. The older ones know how to take care of themselves, but its the younger ones that usually go buck wild, yell, cry, and basically act their age. Some of the youngsters were getting a bit out of hand tonight, so I decided to show them some interesting youtube clips to calm them down. It worked like a charm. They all gathered around my laptop, and were all eyes and ears as they saw how a mantis shrimp is able to punch a hole in the hardened armor of a crab. Some of the younger kids complained that they couldnt see, so I let them sit on my lap, one on each leg. As we were all peacefully enjoying this special moment, I felt my right leg get suddenly warm. A few seconds later, an uncomfortable scent wafted into my nostrils, and proceeded to saturate the air around my heard for a good 30 seconds or so. I chose not to react in any way, and used the discipline I have developed over the years to ignore the distracting fragrance. This happened several times throughout the evening. Lets just say that the air quality in the room was drastically lowered by the end of the night. Moral of the story: Love is costly. But its worth it.
