So our region is currently preoccupied in a relatively new threat that is estimated to last over three decades, according to CIA sources. Apparently, this peril is haunting almost all the key players in our area including our old adversary, Israel. The irony behind it all is that this threat seems to be more relevant than a nuclear Iran, the Turkish expansion, the further fragmentation of the region, the severe unemployment, the deteriorating public health systems and last but not least the uneven distribution of wealth. Amidst all this confusion, the Palestinian issue has dropped to fourth or even fifth place on the Arab Idol charts. Well strange as it may be but this seems to be the facts on the ground. Despite these miserable conditions, there could be a light at the end of the tunnel. However, this requires a unique and unprecedented move on the Israeli behalf. Netanyahu has to realize that the only security Israel will ever have is through a strong Palestinian entity that is capable of ensuring a just and durable peace in the region, which will ultimately dilute all the other threats. Otherwise, and at the end of the assumed three decades of turmoil, there will be nothing to live for. Just a thought.
