So proud of my momma today. I never shared this on Facebook but she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer 5 months ago and a surgery was planned and scheduled quite fast. Today was the day. As I watched her walk away in her little blue gown and protective slippers, my eyes welled up a little bit. Not in fear, but in sadness at knowing how nervous my poor mommy was, more like, terrified. I wanted to go with her and hold her hand, but, for obvious reasons I wasnt aloud. So the wait began. I sat there for an hour with Luut (my step dad) then 2, then three, then pacing, walking, asking the nurses if they had heard anything. Being reassured no news was good news. I waited some more...4 hours, 5 hours! She was back. She was sleeping, she was alive, she was on the road to recover, I exhaled. When we were aloud into her room, I stroked her hair and Luut and I had small talk, she was very sore and tired, and a little bit emotional, but cracked a little smile and we left her to sleep. Checking back at dinner time, she was still asleep. We went back at about 9pm and she was groggy, but awake, her voice clearer, her eyes were open, and she had that little spark (if you know my mom you know what im talking about) She managed to stand up and take a few steps, before returning to bed for the night.
