So proud of our Cradock Library Teens! "The theme for the Teen 2013 Summer Reading was “Beneath the Surface”. so we decided to try making a Soda Bottle Terrarium. The project was different and interesting. The first thing we did was to collect 2 liter soda bottles. We rinsed them out and then used scissors to cut them about six inches from the bottom. A marker was used to trace the area we wanted to cut. A small slit was cut on either side of the bottom part of the bottle to aide in putting the two parts together again once everything was inside. Clippings from plants inside the library and a few seeds were used to put inside the terrarium. The first step in constructing the terrarium involved putting small rocks in the bottom of the bottle; then we put in some activated charcoal to act as a purifier for the water. Next—some moss, potting soil and then the plant(s) and seeds. Lastly, we watered the terrarium and put the top and bottom of the soda bottle back together. A small piece of tape was used to keep the sides together for when we lifted the bottle. Believe it or not the plants are doing great! We have not had to add any additional water due to the condensation inside the bottle. The project was a great success----and still striving since June!" Thanks for sharing, Miss Fay!
