So quick rant, not super negative just analytical. Music these days, compared to when I was really young. When I was a kid, I would go to weekend campout festivals that had world class musicians playing in it (Derek trucks, fareed hawke, John medeski the list goes on). It seems these days the bands and acts that get to play these festivals are more there for image, popularity, the scene and quite frankly to sell tickets. Other than a few musicians and bands (thanks god for papadosio) most of the music I have been seeing at festivals has been really disappointing. Instead of people making real art and expression, its all catering to a scene. If I hear another band rage some drum n bass and its just another sts9 clone, Im gonna freak out. Examples : all rhythms could have been broken down into 3s and 4s. All of them. Triplets and quads were the largest numbers of rhythmic subdivision. All songs were usually perfectly in time, and in key. Which all of this seems good right? No. Not for me You people are smarter than this. YOU are smarter than this! Music should vary in time, feel, key, and tempo for effect and expression, To captivate the listener. I think you deserve intelligent well crafted music on multiple layers. Even for dance music. You deserve more than 3 and 4 in A, and 120bpm. That should be a small part not an entire genera of music. Music should change tempo for effect not to change the style of music. Leaving the festival this weekend asking about the experience, not a single person mentioned a band. Everyone said the had fun, listed off friends and drug experiences, and no music. Its kind if sad to me Thoughts anyone ?
