So remember when I posted about that woman who ranted about cosplayers taking away from the artists at conventions? Well... she wrote something else. Apparently she wasnt meaning to blame cosplayers (yay?) but... the attendees themselves... because... thats so much better...? Quote from the article: It’s not the Cosplayer’s fault. They’re just being gracious and accommodating to the fans. That’s their role. It’s the new breed of attendees who are there because someone said it’s cool to be there; they are the ones completely unfamiliar with the comics industry. They are the ones who attend any hard-to-get-tickets event just to boast online. They are the people I take issue with. NOT the Cosplayers. Those are the people who care only about their selfies on their Instagram profiles. Those are the people who hijack events like Burning Man, Coachella and SDCC with no understanding of why these events exist or their raison d’être. Once they show up to the party, the event jumps the shark. Right, because attendees dont go to cons ever to meet artists they like. Because conventions have never been a social gathering ever. Because its an even better idea to piss off cosplayers AND convention attendees when you go to conventions to sell your product. Thats certainly going to help business right?! I mean... hijack, HIJACK?! W-what...? Right because these conventions arent made for the attendees, they dont thrive on attendees and need them in order to keep going. They dont advertise like crazy, try to get the best guests, bust their butts off all weekend for nothing, they do it to give attendees a good time. Conventions needs attendees, they are literally what keeps a con going. People go to conventions for a variety of reasons. They go because theyre into geek stuff, because of guests, artists, friends, there are a variety of reasons to go to a con. This is not new. Im not sure what new breed of attendees shes referring to who just want to take a bunch of selfies because if you think anyone is spending $60+ for a badge, hundreds of dollars on a room, gas, food, parking, and all that just to go somewhere and take selfies... like what is her deal against selfies and Instagram profiles? She not only backpeddles, she makes an even worse statement. Now youre blaming attendees, the very people who can make or break a con? Whats with this attitude of thinking that attendees dont care about artists, omg, they know why their geekery exists, they know, stop acting like they dont! This damaging attitude is whats bringing things down, now the people going to these events. I wonder what shes going to blame in the next two days -_-
