So since I got my wrist slapped last night :)) and I have had - TopicsExpress

So since I got my wrist slapped last night :)) and I have had about three hours sleep to sleep off the snarkiness from earlier...here is an attempt at legitimate discussion. As an atheist that was formerly an ordained Baptist Minister, and a theology teacher in a Bible Institute, when I began systematically questioning everything I believed in the first thing I had to deal with was the Bible. The Bible represented the foundation of everything I believed in. I believed, as most Christians do, that all scripture is given by inspiration of the Holy Ghost. I believed it was divinely inspired and therefore infallible. In order for me to reaffirm my faith I needed to first validate the infallibility of the Bible. One of the first things I came across in my own thoughts and questions was not even the contradictions, which at some point I can discuss later, but rather two convenient coincidences: First, was how convenient it was that a Hebrew book, written by Hebrew men would tell us how the Hebrew God was going to punish all non Hebrews that did not bless and protect the Hebrew people. Now, without inciting the anti Jewish frenzy of the Muslims in the group, I had a problem with that. To me it seemed like one of the grandest hoaxes of all times! My second inconvenient convenience that bothered me was how a book written by ALL male writers, inspired by a clearly male patriarchal god had conveniently blamed humanitys damnation on a woman and had subjugated all women under men as basically property. These were two problems I had early on in my quest for truth that led me from the pulpit to atheism. To our theist friends in group...are these not just a tad too convenient and self serving? Discuss.
